Theodore R. Ruth Obituary

Theodore R. Ruth, age 93 years, of Mohnton, passed away Monday, June 13th, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading. 

Theodore was born in Reading on March 27, 1923, a son of the late H. Marie (Sohns) and Robert G. Ruth and was the widower of his wife of 57 years, Helen G. (Diebert) Ruth, who passed away June 4, 2015.

He was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Radio Engineering from Tri-State University. He served in the U.S. Army as a T 5 in WW II from 1942 to 1945. He last worked as a maintenance worker at Luden's, Reading, for 14 years until his retirement in 1988. 

Theodore was a member of New Journey United Methodist Church, Reading, and was active in the Food Ministry and in numerous church committees. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop #236, Shillington for 40 years and volunteered at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation and was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and a Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award winner. 

Theodore is survived by his two sons, Eric Ruth and David Ruth, both of Mohnton and two step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Bunnell and M. Virginia Warden. 

Friends are invited to gather Tuesday from 9 to 10 AM at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave., Reading, PA 19609. Memorial service will follow at 10 AM. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Journey Community Outreach, 138 S. 6th St., Reading, PA 19602 or Hawk Mountain Council, BSA, 5027 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605.
