Margaret A. (Cullen) Girolamo Obituary

Margaret A. (Cris) Girolamo, 89, of Wyomissing, PA, formerly of Cedarhurst, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, December 9th at her home.


She was born Margaret Agnes Cullen in Valley Stream, N.Y., on Oct. 5, 1927, to the late Nicholas and Margaret (Derrig) Cullen. She was the wife of Paul C. Girolamo.


After graduating from Lawrence (N.Y.) High School and attending Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Cris, as she was known, was working as a model in Manhattan when she married Paul Girolamo, a recent graduate of Cornell University, on April 7, 1951. Paul’s work took them to New York, Massachusetts and South Carolina before the family of six settled in Wyomissing in 1970. Along their journey, she was on the boards of local arts organizations and worked for several years at H&R Block in Reading. She was an avid reader, especially of American history and biography, and enjoyed playing tennis, playing and teaching bridge, and going to the beach. After she and Paul retired, they spent many happy winters in Hobe Sound and Jupiter, Fl.


Margaret is survived by her husband; a daughter, Stacey G., wife of Jeffrey Steinfurth, of Reading, PA; three sons: Paul D., husband of  Elizabeth (Bland), of Brooklyn, NY; Christopher A., husband of  Clare (Losty), of Reston, VA; Gregory C., husband of  Elizabeth (Brazonis), of Willow St., PA.

 

Margaret is also survived by a sister, Anne, widow of  George Fritz, of Westfield, NJ.She is also survived by 7 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great granddaughter. She is predeceased by a sister, Joan M. Cullen.


A private memorial service will be held after the New Year. Donations may be made in Margaret's name to The Concern Treatment Unit for Boys, 1225 West Lincoln Hwy., Coatesville, PA 19320-1858.
