Juan R. Mendez, 63, of Reading, passed away Monday, December 25th, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading. 

Juan was born in Mayaguez, PR on April 13, 1954, a son of the late Rafaela (Gonzalez) and Juan Dedios Mendez.

He was the husband of Maria E. (Fontanez) Mendez. They were married for 42 years.

He graduated from the Reading Police Academy in 1981 and was employed as a Corrections Officer at Berks County Prison Bern Township, PA.,

In addition to his wife, Maria, Juan is survived by 2 sons Reynaldo Mendez, of Florida; and  Marcos J. Mendez, of Sinking Spring, PA. Juan is also survived by 5 sisters, Natalia Mendez, of Puerto Rico; Providencia Viruet, of Florida; Mary Ramos, of Reading; Ivelisse Torres, of West Lawn; Carmen Cordero, of Wyomissing; and a brother, George Mendez, of Reading. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren Dominic and Ella Mendez

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday, December 29th at Feeney Funeral Home in Reading, PA  A Religious Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery Reading, PA.
