Harold Baker Obituary
Harold R. (Hal) Baker, 85, of Muhlenberg Township, PA passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023. He was the husband of Sandra A. (Miller) Baker who survives him. Born in Lebanon County on April 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Dasher and Harold B. Baker. He was a graduate of Myerstown High School, class of 1955, where he was also known as “Sam” and voted “Best Dressed” by his classmates. He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology from Penn State University where he was a member of the Theta Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity. He went on to receive a master’s degree in education from Temple University. Hal was employed at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 31 years serving as both Manager of Personnel and Labor Relations, and Manager of Manufacturing, retiring in 1989. Three years later, he returned to the work force part-time with the Berks County Employment and Training Office. Then in 1997, he became the county’s Director of Personnel. On returning to work full-time at age 60 Hal said, “I’m blessed with good health, and I love this community and the people. What more could one want?” He served the county for over 10 years. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, PA for over 60 years serving in many capacities. He was an instructor for the Manufacturer’s Association of Berks County, served on the Hawk Mountain Council of Boy Scouts, and was involved in many other business and civic organizations. He was an avid golfer, loved good food, music and anything involving his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his two children from his former marriage to the late Patricia (Potteiger) Seidel: son Vincent (wife Claudia) of Carson, Iowa, and daughter Chaudene (husband Thomas) Michalek of Breinigsville, PA; two stepchildren: Tiffany (husband Keith) Brightbill of Reading, PA, and Christy Mumma of Darlington, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon (wife Emily), Bret, Bethany and Savannah; step grandchildren Matthew, Reid and Sarah (husband Andrew); great-grandchildren Ireland, Judah, Elisha, Hadassah, Kaiden and Leighton; step great-grandchild Lilah. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday April 7th at 10:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, PA. The service will be livestreamed on Calvary’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s name to Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Avenue, Laureldale, PA 19605.
