LeRoy R. Gensemer


LeRoy R. Gensemer, 94, of Reading, PA passed away on Friday, March 31st at Manor at Market Place, Reading.


LeRoy was born in Shillington, PA on May 27, 1928, a son of the late Elsie (Oppenhauer) and Raymond Gensemer. He was the widower of Wray (Miller) Gensemer who died in 2014. .


LeRoy served as a Jury Commissioner in Berks County for 20 years as well as a Prison inspector. He also served as President of Bethany's Children's Home Alumni Association for 29 years, having been raised there as a child, along with his wife Wray. 


LeRoy also participated in the PA Senior Olympics for 31 years, primarily in the badminton category but also in every sport. He also ran 2 senior centers and was a former president of Church Council at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of and an Officer of many Democratic Clubs in Berks County.


He was employed at the Reading School District in maintenance among other jobs, 


LeRoy holds the title of the World's largest business card collector, according to Ripley's Believe It or Not, with 2,590,200 different business cards. 


LeRoy is survived by  five sons Walter R., husband of Carol Gensemer, of Reading, PA; Jay G. Gensemer, husband of Georgene, of Mullica, NJ,  Bruce R., husband of Charmaine Gensemer, of Blandon, PA; Dean G. Gensemer, of Reading, PA; and one daughter, Donna W. Groff, of Hamburg, PA.


LeRoy is also survived by two sisters, Bert R.,widower of Fred Arnold, of Upper Gwynedd, PA; and Ethel, wife of Richard Schaffer, of Reading, PA.


He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Kristen, Christine, Walter Jr., Troy, Angie and Jason Gensemer, and Bradley and Jennifer Groff; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren


He was predeceased by 3 brothers: Raymond and Carl, and Sam, along with and one sister, Pearl.


Friends are invited to call on Wednesday April 5th from 11 Am until 12 Noon at Feeney Funeral Home. A religious service will follow at 12 Noon. Graveside services follows at Forest Hills Memorial Park
