Walter W. Meshinsky, Jr, 89, of Reading, PA, passed away Wednesday, May 24th, at his residence. Born in Shanetown, PA on March 7, 1928, he was a son of the late Ella (Gomosky) and Walter Meshinsky. He was the husband of Shirley A. (East) Meshinsky.
Walter served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He worked as a mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987. He also worked for the Reading Bus Company for 15 years as well as Glenside Auto Body shop.
He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross, and transported Veterans to the V.A. Hospital. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer scuba diver with the Reading Fire Department.
Walter is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters: Cheryl A., wife of Jeffrey Hess, of Reading, PA, and Vicki L., wife of Gil Dierolf, of Brecknock Twp, PA; and three sons: Jeffrey A. Hertzog, husband of Susan, of Shoemakersville, PA; Keith A. Hertzog, husband of Michele, of Mobile, AL; and Brian A. Hertzog, husband of Lyanne, of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Walter was predeceased by daughter Marsha Meshinsky Baker, brother Joseph Meshinsky, grandson Jeffrey Hertzog and great-grandson, Jason Hertzog.
