Walter R. Portner, 94, of Bernville, passed away Tuesday, January 6th, at Tower Health Reading Hospital, West Reading. 

Walter was born in Reading on September 10, 1931, a son of the late Walter E. Portner and Margaret P. (Harris) Elbert.

He was the husband of Connie L. Aker, who survives him.

He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Polymer Corporation / Morton International for 48 years, retiring in 2000.

He served as a Cub Master and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America and was a lifetime member of both the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. 

Walter was preceded in death by one son, Gregory L. Portner of Reading, PA.

In addition to his wife, Connie, Walter is survived by four daughters, Donna M. Portner, wife of Bruce Lutz, of Wernersville, PA; Linda A. Coller, wife of Eric Siegfried, of Wernersville, PA; Karen E. Levi, wife of Jonathan Levi, of Fort Wayne, IN; Kathy E. Portner and her significant other, Jay Sweitzer, of Stevens, PA; a stepdaughter, Sherry W., wife of Scott Luttrell, of Wernersville, PA; a stepson, Richard T. Wood, husband of Jennifer Wood, of Fort Worth, TX. 

Walter is also survived by one sister, Patti Heister, wife of Craig Heister of Reading, PA; and one daughter in law, Delores Portner of Reading, PA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family in Charles Evans Cemetery Reading, PA.
