The Ott Obituary

The Rev. G. Richard Ott, 80, died Aug. 31 at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center. He was born Jan. 13, 1934 in Reading, the son of George A. and Kathryn A. Ott. He was a graduate of Reading High School, Franklin and Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary, with additional training at Allentown State Hospital, Johns Hopkins Institute, and Yale University Continuing Education Center.

He served pastorates at Friedens UCC, Friedensville, Pa., Zions UCC, Reading, Calvary UCC, Reading, and Trinity UCC, Pottstown. He served on the boards of the Children's Home of Reading, The Berks County Council of Camp Fire Girls, the Community School of Music and the Arts, and the State Committee on Community Mental Health/Mental Retardation Services. While at Trinity UCC, he began the Free Meal program along with the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities.

He married Helen B. Reber on June 25, 1955. She survives him.

His daughter, Linda Ott Rider, and sister, Margaret L. Gerber, predeceased him.

Survivors include his wife, daughter, Nancy L. Matthews, wife of Gan, Norman, Okla., son, Brian R. Ott, husband of Donna, Oley, son-in-law Ralph Rider, Sinking Spring, brother Robert J. Ott, husband of Connie, Rochester, N.Y., and seven grandchildren: Judith L. Matthews, John A. Rider, Kathryn E. Ott, Luke R. Ott, Lucille M. Ott, Marianna S. Ott, and Helen A. Ott.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. John's Reformed Church at the above address, or Phoebe Berks Healthcare Auxiliary, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565.
