Nancy A. Christman, 84, of Bryn Mawr, PA, formerly of Stoudt’s Ferry Bridge Road, Muhlenberg Twp., (Reading) PA, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s at 10:30 PM on Tuesday, April 20th, at The Quadrangle, Haverford, Delaware County, PA.
Nancy was born in Reading, PA on November 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Marjorie (Gernert) and Douglas Artz.
She was the wife of Earle E. Christman, Jr., who survives her. They met in 1954 on a blind date and were married for 62 years.
A graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1954, she had also taken many courses in banking and was employed as a bank teller supervisor at the former City Bank and Trust Company (now M&T Bank), retiring in 1998.
Nancy was a former treasurer of the Reading Civic Opera Society, now Berks Civic Theatre, with whom she once performed in musicals. She served as a long-time volunteer for the organization as well. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reading and sang for many years in its choir. She was a member of the Penn Coachmen (Family Motor Coach Association) and past member of the Junior Women's Club of Muhlenberg Township. She also served as a literacy volunteer, helping English Language Learners develop their confidence in English.
In addition to work and volunteering, Nancy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an expert birthday cake maker, an avid reader, and an enthusiastic traveler. With Earle, she traveled in their motor home across the United States several times, including a visit to Alaska and to the Eastern Canadian Provinces.
In addition to her husband Earle, Nancy is survived by a daughter, Vanessa J. Christman, wife of David J. Newman of Bryn Mawr; a son, Ward D., husband of Kristina Nazarewycz Christman, of Coatesville; two brothers, Jeffrey Artz, of Florida, and Kevin Artz, of Arizona; and by 5 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Cynde (Artz) Honsberger, of Lake Ariel, PA.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.
