Karen Gottshall Obituary

Karen Shrom Gottshall of Maidencreek Place passed away peacefully on July 21 at the age of 86. She was born on October 8, 1937 in Reading, PA to the late Andrew Shrom and Francis (Levy) Shrom, and predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years Dick Gottshall, and brother John. Karen is survived by her children Steven (Connie) of Caldwell WV, David (Beth) of Shillington PA, and Timothy (Angie) of Avon Lake OH and eight grandchildren, as well as brothers Andrew (LaJoyce) and Alan (Helen) Shrom, and sisters Cecie Weller (Larry) and Susie Neider (Paul).
Karen was a graduate of the Reading High School Class of 1955, and graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, R.N. 1958. She worked as a registered nurse, holding positions at Womelsdorf Psychiatric Hospital, the Reading Hospital, and the East Penn Medical Center in Blandon. Later in life, Karen worked as the mailroom clerk at Albright College where Dick was the cross country and track coach for 12 years. Giving back to others was a passion for Karen and Dick, and they did volunteer work for many summers - with Karen providing nursing care and teaching on Johns Island SC, Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia, the Reading Southwest Christian Ministry, and Thomas Ford Elementary School. She was also a cub scout den mother and Meals on Wheels volunteer.
As a member of the former St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church of Reading, Karen was active in Sunday School teaching and youth ministries.  
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, July 31st, from 10:30 AM to 11 AM at Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 102 Apple St., Leesport, PA 19533. Religious service at 11 AM. Interment at Leesport Cemetery.
