June Lynne (Yocom) Greth Obituary

June Lynne (Yocom) Greth, 97, formerly of Reading and Shillington, passed away peacefully in Hearthstone at Amity on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, where she resided for almost 2 years. She was the loving wife of the late Walter I. Greth for 42 years until his death in August of 1984.

Born in Reading on February 15, 1919, June was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Ruth (Eaches) Yocom. She was a faithful member of Immanuel United Church of Christ while living in Shillington and of St. Thomas United Church of Christ while living in Reading, serving on the church Finance Committee from 1996 to 1999.

June was a 1936 graduate of Reading High School. She then attended Albright College, and in 1940, received her Baccalaureate in Home Economics. After graduation, June worked for Consumers Gas as the Home Service Director until 1942.

It was important to June that she dedicate her life to community service. She worked toward this by serving as president of the Women’s Club of Reading from 1987 to 1988 and the Soroptimist Club of Reading.   June was also a former board member of the Berks County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a life member of the Board of Directors of the Berks Visiting Nurse Association, held a forefather membership with the Swedish Colonial Society of Philadelphia, and was a 30-year volunteer for the Berks County United Way campaign.

June was also a devoted mother who cherished her relationship with her son, Dr. David L. Greth, until his death in July of 2014.  She was an amazing and unforgettable person whose sparkling personality and fascinating stories brightened the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Surviving June is her granddaughter, Kristin Greth of Ohio, and a host of friends.

Services for June are private and at the convenience of the family.  Interment will take place within the Charles Evans Cemetery Chapel Columbarium.

Arrangements are entrusted to the John P. Feeney Funeral Home in Reading’s Centre Park Historic District, 625 N. 4th St. at Centre Ave. (Route 61) Reading, PA 19601.
