Donald M. Rauenzahn, 86, of Reading, passed away Monday, December 27th, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center.
Donald was born in Reading, PA on March 8, 1935, a son of the late Carrie (Fox) and Harold S. Rauenzahn. He is survived by his wife Harriet (Shearer) Rauenzahn.
He graduated from Reading High School in 1953 and entered a special 5 year program in Engineering, 3 years at Albright College and then 2 years at Penn State, graduating in 1958. In his teens he was known as "Hawkeye" for his baseball and basketball skills.
Donald enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. He wanted to plant vegetables too, but the groundhogs had a different plan.
Donald served in the U.S. Army as a SP4. and was later employed as an Engineer at Gilbert's Associates. He then worked at Lucent Technology for 15 years, retiring in 2000. During retirement he sponsored Harriet's musical education.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by a niece and three nephews, Niece Gale Terek, wife of John Terek and nephews Glenn Huie, husband of Cathy and Jeff Rauenzahn, husband of Kris, and Craig Rauenzahn, husband of Nancy. . He was predeceased by 3 siblings, brother Harold Rauenzahn, and sisters Doris Rauenzahn and Marie D. Huie.
Gathering of friends and relatives will be held 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 6th at Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Avenue Reading, PA. with religious service at 10 AM
Graveside Services with full military honors will follow at St. John's Gernant's Church Cemetery, Leesport, PA.
