David Richard Bunn, 66, of Wyomissing, passed away Monday, March 22nd, at his residence in the company of family after a valiant battle with brain cancer.
David was born in Reading, PA on January 12, 1955, a son of the late Muriel G. (Smith) and James R. Bunn.
He was the husband of Karen M. (Hetman) Bunn. David is also survived by two children: Caitlin D. Bunn of Philadelphia and Colin A. Bunn of Wyomissing; two brothers: Matthew R. Bunn, husband of Laura E. Humphrey-Bunn, of Reading, and James W. Bunn, husband of Chrissie Bunn, of Spring Township, by nieces and nephews, and mother-in-law, Ethel L. Hetman.
David was a good, kind, and genuine man who enjoyed helping others and making his family and friends laugh. He was known for his big infectious smile. David was a wonderful brother, father, and husband.
Always a hard worker, David started as a newspaper boy. He was honored as Boy of the Year in 1970 by Olivet’s #4. As a Game Manager for the 1973 Reading High Basketball Team, he was given a key to the City of Reading. After graduating from Reading High School in 1973, Bunnzie continued to be a proud Red Knight throughout his life.
David proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital as a Corpsman. He was employed as a Steelworker at Carpenter Technology for 38 years.
He loved to help with his son’s Boy Scout Troop and daughter’s Girl Scout Troop. David coached various sports teams throughout his life, from Little League baseball to girl’s high school basketball. Most recently he was a Game Manager for the Wyomissing Spartans.
David was a huge Philadelphia Sports Fan and a Final Four Fanatic. Some of his fondest memories were traveling to Final Four Championships with his best friends.
Davey Bunn never met a beach he didn’t like. Margate always held a special place in his heart. He loved the sun and cooking. As a “grill master extraordinaire," he was always feeding the world. No event was too big for Bunnzie; he enjoyed cooking for his fellow steelworkers in the hot steel mill of Car Tech, grilling at the annual Wyomissing 4th of July Celebration, and making sure the whole parking lot was fed at tailgates. No matter the season, Dave could be found in his beautiful backyard grilling.
He could often be seen walking his German Shepherd along the Wyomissing Creek. David enjoyed vacationing and traveling with his family. He loved skiing and attending concerts. David was truly an inspiration and will be missed by all who knew him.
The Bunn Family is grateful to all who sent well wishes, provided meals, and shared special times with David during his illness. We would also like to thank Bayada for their remarkable support of David and his family during his final days.
Services are private at the convenience of the family. A well-deserved Celebration of Life Gathering will be held after the Covid restrictions are lifted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Olivet Boys' and Girls' Club, 677 Clinton Street Reading, PA 19601.
