Clare Algier Obituary

Clare M. Algier, 93, formerly of Riverview Park,  passed away Monday, November 12th, at Berks Heim Nursing Home, Berks County.


Clare was born in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Mary (Hession) and William Kennedy. She was the widow of Thomas J. Algier, who passed in 1981.


She was a member of Holy Garden Angels Roman Catholic Church, Reading, PA. She worked as an administrative assistant for Monongahela Power early in life then became a homemaker after her marriage. She was a member of the choir at St. Margaret's and Holy Guardian Angels churches as well as serving as organist at both churches. In her youth, she belonged to the Monongahela Girls Club.


Clare is survived by two daughters: Mary Anne, wife of Edward Fogarty, of Houston, TX; and Ellen, wife of John Diggs, of Olathe, KS; and three sons: William C. Algier, of Reading, PA; Thomas J. Algier, Jr., husband of Daisy, of Lebanon, PA; and James T. Algier, husband of Jaynann, of Pottstown, PA.


Clare is also survived by three sisters: Maureen Wolfe, of Fairmont, WV; Margaret Mauney, of St. Petersburg, Fl; and Barbara, wife of Fernando Rojas, of Los Angeles, CA, and a brother, Richard Kennedy, of Fillmore, NY.


She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.


Friends and family are invited to attend a public viewing from 7 PM to 9 PM on Friday, November 16th at John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Inc. in Reading, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, November 17th at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Hamburg, PA with Reverend Donald Cieniewicz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamburg.


Donations may be made in her husband's name to the American Heart Association, 968 Postal Road Suite 110 Allentown, PA 18109 or in her name to the Reading Musical Foundation, 201 Washington St, Reading, PA 19601 for student scholarships
