Charles D. Schittler, 96, of Exeter, formerly of Reading, passed away, Monday, January 15th, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading.
Charles was born in Dryville on February 9, 1927, a son of the late Elsie (Keller) and Charles Schittler and was the widower of Marian J. (Woomert) Schittler, who passed away in 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st class and was employed in the Final Inspection Department at Firestone, Pottstown for 32 years. He then worked as a forklift operator at Oxidental Chemical Company from 1980 till his retirement in 1989.
Charles is survived by three daughters, Dawn M., wife of Larry Soltys, of Exeter; Candice D., wife of Michael Sallade, of Exeter; Bonita L., wife of George MacLean, of Delaware. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Laura Roberts, Michael Sallade Jr., Eric Sallade, Danielle Kelly, Jeremy Baxter, Britney Lessig, Misty Marshall, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Dale A. Schittler, son, David Schittler, daughter, Denise Schittler, sister, Delma Schittler, brother, Robert Schittler and brother, Edward Stacy.
Charles was a man of faith and family. There was nothing more important to him than the love for his daughters and grandchildren. He loved spending every holiday with them up until the very end.
He was proud to serve his country and loved telling stories of war to whomever wanted a glimpse into his life at sea. He served his family, country, and lord with dignity and pride.
Public viewing will be Monday, January 22nd from 11 AM to 12 PM at Feeney Funeral Home. Religious service will follow at 12 PM. Interment at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter.
