Bruce R. Young, 84, of Reading, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in the Golden Living Center where he resided since January 2016.


The husband of Carole A. (Jones) Young, who survives him, Bruce was born in Reading, PA on January 4, 1932, a son of the late Pearl I. (Brendle) and Ralph W. Young.


A 1949 graduate of Reading High School, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class, and later worked as a machine designer at Western Electric Reading, PA., for 38 years, retiring in 1994.


A member of Isaac Hiester Masonic Lodge #660 where he was a Past Worshipful Master in 1983, he was also a member of the Rajah Shrine, and the Topton American Legion where he served on the Honors Team, playing the bugle and presenting the American Flag at more than 400 Veteran’s Funeral Services. He was also a member of the Reading Buccaneers and Buccaneers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps and the Hall of Fame. He served as their President in 1965 and 1968.


In addition to his wife, Carole, he is survived by his children, a daughter Brenda L., wife of Michael K. Garman, of Hamburg, PA; and a son Jeffrey B. Young, husband of Kim E. Young of Sinking Spring, PA.  He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Shirley L. Kohl, of Temple, PA. and a brother In law Jack Schaeffer, widower of Janet C. Schaeffer.


Friends are invited to call Saturday morning, November 5th from 11 AM to 1 PM at John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Reading. Masonic Lodge service at 1 PM followed by the Military Honors Salute at 1:30 PM by the Topton American Legion which will be followed by a salute from the Reading Buccaneers Alumni Corp. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Fort Indiantown National Cemetery with full military honors.
