Bernice (Hurdle) Seay Obituary

Bernice Seay, 93, of Reading, PA, passed away Saturday, July 1st, at the home of Nelson (deceased) and Maryann Stubbs. Born in Lancaster, PA, she was a daughter of the late Emma (Kirk) and James C. Hurdle. She was the widow of James Seay.

Bernice moved to Reading at an early age to be raised by her older sister, Ruth Stubbs. She attended Reading Public Schools. As an adult, she moved to Philadelphia and married James Seay. She and her husband later moved to Eatonville, FL where they resided for many years. While in Eatonville, she was a supporter and volunteer at the Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts. She also worked as a Nurse's Aide and caregiver there and previously in Philadelphia. In her later years, Bernice moved back to Reading where she passed away at the age of 93.

Bernice was known for a lifetime of activity, great health, and her good humor. She often said, "I love you and I like you."

Bernice is survived by one son, James Addison, husband of Alberta; one daughter in law, Margie Addison, and grandchildren: Karen, wife of Jeffrey Williams, Kathryn, wife of Barry Perry and Tara, wife of Rodney McKenzie and three great grandsons: Omari and Khari Williams and Christopher Perry.

She was predeceased by one son, Moses Addison; two brothers: James W. Hurdle Sr., and Paul C. Hurdle Jr, and four sisters: Emma Sims, Easter J. Umbles, Ruth Stubbs and Shirley Nocho. She was an inspiration to a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Nicey's life will be held Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 601 N. Front Street, Reading, PA.
