Robert Abram "Bob" Jones, 83, of Leesport, passed away Saturday at Reading Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born Jan. 31, 1932, in Schuylkill Haven, Bob was a son of the late Leroy and Agnes Jones. He was also preceded in death by seven siblings.
Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Faith Ann; daughters, Kristin Jones, Jennifer "Buffi" Webber and Jessica Jones; sons-in-law, Jami Godfrey and Christopher Webber; grandsons, Cooper and Duncan Webber and Mason and Carter Jones Godfrey; sisters-in-law, Patricia Bressler and Barbara Scott; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bob was a 1949 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge, he received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and earned a master's degree from the University of Virginia.
Bob loved teaching and taught at Schuylkill Valley High School, where he retired as a teacher in 1997, but continued to work through 2014 as a member of the SVHS community. During his tenure at Schuylkill Valley, he was tirelessly devoted to the school and its students. In addition to his teaching career, Bob worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block's Muhlenberg office.
Bob was a community leader and active member in his Lutheran faith, serving in many capacities. It was through this service that he fell in love with his wife of almost 49 years during their tenure as president and vice president of the Pottsville District Luther League.
Bob was a staunch supporter of all things Penn State and Schuylkill Valley.
Bob will be remembered for his contributions to the community and for his life as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. His love was returned to him Ally Ally O.F.E.
A visitation to celebrate Bob's life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 10 a.m. Friday. Bob will be laid to rest in the Veteran's Memorial area at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Panther Pride Stadium Campaign, c/o Schuylkill Valley High School, 929 Lakeshore Drive, Leesport, PA 19533.
