Raymond E. "Palie" Hoffmann

Raymond E. Hoffmann, 84, of Reading, passed away Thursday, November 3rd, at his residence surrounded by family members.


The husband of the late Gloria H. (nee Hartman) Hoffmann, Ray was born in Reading, PA on April 15, 1932, a son of the late Helen M. (nee Stott) Hoffmann and Paul E. Hoffmann Sr.


Ray served in the U.S. Army as a photographer during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and went on to earn his Masters Degree in English and history at Temple University.  He pursued his life's passion as an English Teacher at Northwest Junior High School in the Reading School District from 1960 until his retirement in 1992 - a service of 32 years. Ray also taught English as a Second Language classes for the Reading School District's Standard Evening High School Program.  He later became the Standard Evening High School Principal, under Reading Area Community College. Additionally, Ray worked at the Children's Home of Reading during the 1960s and 1970s.


Ray is survived by his children: Jeffrey Hoffmann, husband of Pamela; Tracy Hoffmann, husband of Linda; Pamela Hoffmann, wife of Mark Spotts; Timothy Hoffmann, husband of Denise. Ray is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan Hoffmann, husband of Lori; and Casey Hoffmann.


He was predeceased by 9 siblings, 3 sisters, V. Miriam Steffy,  Geraldine  Loring and Loretta Hoffmann, along with 6 brothers, Herbert Hoffmann,  Richard Hoffmann, Luther Hoffmann,  William Hoffmann, Paul E. Hoffmann, Jr, and Robert Hoffmann.

 


Services are private with interment at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA, with full military honors, at the convenience of the family.
