Paula (Knauer) Sweisford
Paula K. Sweisford passed away Saturday, May 2nd at age 94. She was the daughter of Donald and Mabel Knauer and the wife of Homer S. Sweisford. Paula was a beloved teacher for over 25 years and recognized by former students wherever she went. She started her teaching career at Pottstown Junior High School as the band director and then went on to teach music and second and fifth grade at Owen J. Roberts. After retiring from teaching, Paula volunteered at French Creek Elementary School, where she motivated a new generation of students, and was the Judge of Elections for South Coventry Township.
Paula was well-traveled, having visited Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, and even traversing the United States in an RV. As an avid reader, she was a well-known fixture at the Pottstown Library. Paula enjoyed spending time with her children, Sand, Shell, Surf, Spray and Skif, their spouses, ten grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Paula knew how she loved to play cards, sometimes till midnight. She was never out of wine and could tear up the dance floor at a wedding. She had a wicked sense of humor and, as she announced with a bumper sticker on her car, “yes I can drive stick.”
Paula will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former students. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA or the Pottstown Public Library. Services will be private.
