Michael Kostival Obituary

Michael Kostival, 89, passed away Monday, December 16th, at his residence.


Born in Reading on May 19, 1935, he was the son of the late George M. and Veronica (Bujnovsky) Kostival and is survived by his wife, Nancy C. Kostival.


He was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Upon graduation, he became a journeyman bricklayer, working for John B. Kelly Brickworks. In 1958, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After two years of service, he entered the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and became a flight engineer on the Lockheed C-121 Constellation. Upon completion of military service, he studied Architecture at Penn State University and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree with honors.


Mr. Kostival became a Registered Architect and established his own firm in 1978 working on a variety of projects including achieving USGBC LEED Certification and designing his own homes. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects Emeritus, Rotary Club of Reading, and South Mountain YMCA Board Member Emeritus.  

 

He was a member of Sacred Heart R. C. Church. He enjoyed spending time at his home at the shore. He loved aviation and enjoyed sharing this love with his grandchildren through attending air shows and museums with them.


In addition to his wife, Nancy, Michael is survived by his three daughters: Lynn, wife of David Griffith, of Exeter; Kathleen, of Switzerland; and Ann, of Reading. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard, Robert, Frank, Carl, and Albert. He was predeceased by his brother, George. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Zachary husband of Julia, William, husband of Alexandra, Nicholas, Camille, Joshua, and Veronica, and two great granddaughters, Grace and Natalie.
