RUFFNER, MARILYN L. (Weidman)


Marilyn L. Ruffner, 87, of Shillington and most recently, Sinking Spring Manor Care, passed away Monday, April 20th, at the Reading Hospital due to complications from Covid-19.


Marilyn was born in Reading, PA on November 7, 1932, a daughter of the late Marion (Gaul) and Warren Weidman, both deceased. She was the widow of Roy Ruffner, who predeceased her on February 15, 2020. They had celebrated 44 years of marriage.


Marilyn was a member of St. John’s Reformed Church in Sinking Spring. PA., She graduated from Wernersville High School in 1950 and Reading Business Institute in 1951. She was employed as a teller, receptionist, and customer service representative at the former Reading Trust Company for 18 years, retiring in 1983.  Marilyn was an avid reader, skier, golfer and traveler.


Marilyn is survived by her son, Eric B. Hartzell, married to Lori Hartzell, Newmanstown, PA, her Granddaughter, Katlyn M. Harker, married to Kimberly Harker, Sinking Spring, PA her stepchildren Craig Ruffner, Texas, and Carol L. Horne, PA. In addition, she is survived by Step Grandchildren, Sharon Grover (Reber), Michael Reber, Julie Ruffner, Thomas Ruffner, and Sara Ruffner, and 2 step Great-Grandson’s. She is also survived by her and Roy’s close friend, Michelle A. Harker, who watched over them both in their final years, especially the last few months. Michelle drove Roy to see Marilyn daily upon Marilyn’s admittance to Manor Care of Market Square assuring that they had time together every day honoring their love and marriage of 44 years.  She was pre-deceased by her husband, Roy Ruffner, her sister, Mary Ellen (Weidman) Stoudt and her Brother, James Weidman.


At the request of Marilyn, and due to social distancing restrictions, there will be no wake, viewing or funeral.
