Marie R. (Tobias) Fox Obituary

Marie R. Fox, 97, of Bern Township, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. 

The widow of beloved husband William A. Fox, who died in 1977, she was born and died in Bern Township.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents Clayton and Edna (Ulrich) Tobias and her brother George Tobias. 

She is survived by her sister Gloria, wife of Ralph Chapin of Denver, PA; daughters Diane, wife of Richard Rickenbach of Hilton Head, SC; Karen, wife of Michael Feeney of Leesport, PA; Susan, wife of Harold Price of Springfield, VA; son Bryan and wife Erlyn of Leesport, PA. Also surviving are grandchildren: Laura Rickenbach Weiler (Matthew), Peter Rickenbach (Sandra Lee), Jonathan Feeney, Meghan Feeney Shannon (Timothy), Harrison Price, Jessica Price, Erianne Fox and Aliah Fox; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She attended a one-room schoolhouse and Penn Bernville High School. As a lifelong active member of Epler’s United Church of Christ, she served on consistory, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She was an avid quilter who enjoyed being part of the church quilting group.

An accomplished seamstress, most of her working life was spent as a sewing machine operator and sample maker for numerous clothing manufacturers, including during World War II. She was proud to have set the piece-rate for her fellow workers. After retiring from the textile industry, she worked in retail at her daughter’s Educational and Fun store into her mid-80’s. 

Marie enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, needlecrafts, and gardening, both vegetables and flowers, especially roses. She loved being surrounded by family and enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad with family and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at Epler’s UCC, 1151 West Leesport Rd, Leesport, ,PA 19533 (Bern Township), on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at 2:00 PM with viewing prior to the service at 12:30 PM. Interment in Epler’s cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Epler’s Churc
