Kermit S. Stern 84, of Reading, also known as Speed passed away peacefully Sunday, October 11th, at his residence amongst family. Kermit was born in Reading on March 29,1936, a son of the late Edna (Spencer) and William Stern and was the widower of Emma M. (Bowers) Stern,
He was a graduate of Reading High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force where he retired as a Tech Sergeant. He returned home to serve his community and worked as a Program Director for the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, for 20 years. Kermit gave selflessly to kids within his community. Serving others truly gave him joy, some saw him as a big stern man but in reality he was a big teddy bear with a heart of service. Kermit was known for serving as a coach for several youth leagues including the “Munch Bunch”. In his time, Kermit touched many lives as he was filled with ample wisdom and was very open to share stories of his personal life experiences .
Kermit is survived by his two daughters Robin M. Leon , of Reading; Nona L. Stern, of Reading; three sons Van K. Stern; of Reading, Eric J. Stern, of Reading; Joseph A. Stern, of Colorado; and sister Gloria Marr, of Reading. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, October 15th from 9:00-11:00 AM at Feeney Funeral Home in the outside garden. Religious service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment at Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.
