June Kunkelman Obituary

June Gloria (Reigle) Kunkelman, 97, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 at Christina Medical Center in Newark, Delaware, after a brief illness. A longtime resident of Reading, Pennsylvania, she and her husband moved to Womelsdorf, PA in 1998, where they enjoyed retirement together. In the summer of 2024, June moved to Middletown, Delaware.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Paul W. Kunkelman Jr., who passed away on January 11, 2002. June was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on September 9, 1927, to the late Charles W. and Beulah S. (Loose) Reigle. She graduated from Reading High School in 1945 and married the love of her life, Paul W. Kunkelman Jr., in 1947.

June had a rewarding career, working at the Charles Evans Cemetery for over 14 years before retiring to begin new travel adventures with her beloved husband Paul.

She was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church in Reading, PA, and actively contributed to her community. June served as the Treasurer of the Northwest Jr. High School Alumni Association, was a member of the Reading Senior High School Reunion Committee, and a lifetime member of the Reading High School Alumni Association. She also supported the Berks County Visiting Nurses Association and was honored as a member of the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame.

She was a founding member of the Northwest Swimming Pool Association, where she and Paul were very active. June was also a member of several senior organizations, including the Community Senior Citizen Club of Mohnton, the West Lawn Senior Citizen Center, Red Hats, and the Westview Terrace 55 Club in Womelsdorf. June moved from Womelsdorf, PA to Middletown, Delaware in the summer of 2024. June was well-known for coordinating senior group trips for nearly 30 years through the Gas Utilities Seniors Club. She loved organizing both day trips and extended vacations, often taking one or two trips a month until she was 90. She loved dancing and traveling with Paul and their friends, treasured afternoons playing cards with neighbors, and deeply cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Bonnie L. Ruoff of W. Virginia and her three children: Dianne, wife of Edward Ciesla, of North Carolina; Darice, wife of Bruce Strupp, of Delaware; and Gary, husband of Laura Lynn (Landers) Kunkelman, of Texas. June is also survived by her 9 grandchildren: Kimberly, Bruce, Tracy, Stephanie, Alicia, Timothy, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Bradley. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren: Emily, Damian, Drew, Hannah, Caden, Benjamin, Eli, Camden, Pierce, Zachary, Clara, William, Maisie, Colby and many nieces and nephews.

June’s warmth, generosity, and kindness will always be cherished by her family, friends, and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to gather Friday, May 16th from 11 AM to 12 PM at Feeney Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 12 PM. Interment will be at Charles Evans Cemetery, 1119 Centre Avenue, Reading, PA 19601.
