HO Train Enthusiast and Collector


J. Jay Matz, 78, of Douglassville, PA passed away Friday, October 28th, at Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Royersford, Montgomery County. 

 

Jay was born in Reading, PA on July 28, 1944, a son of the late Mary (Rowe) and John Jay Matz.

 

He was a graduate of Reading High School and was employed as a Machinist at Dana Corp for 31 years.

 

An avid Train collector and HO advocate, he also raced Dragsters in the 60's with Ed Lowalski Speed Shop. His 28' x 60' warehouse was completely filled with his HO train layout. 

 

Jay is survived by 

a son,Todd J, husband of Lisa Matz, of Reading, PA. 

He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Anthony Matz husband of Natasha of Sinking Spring, Troy Matz of Reading, Ashley Corbett of Reading and Jennifer Becker of Reading.

3 Great grandchildren, Ayden Grillo, Abbigale Hefflefinger and Decklin Becker, all of Reading.

 

He was predeceased by his girlfriend of many years, Kathy Eschelman.

 

Services will be private for the convenience of the family.
