Jeanne Lois Downey, 84, of Temple, PA, beloved wife of Richard J. Downey, passed away Wednesday, July 5th, at Reading Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Amelia Catherine (Link) and John Leo Leinbach.

Jeanne was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1950. She was owner/operator of Better Than Before, a consignment shop. She also worked at NBC and was also a masseuse.

She loved antiques, lobster, and traveling to Cape May. Nothing pleased her more than being surrounded by family while enjoying picnics on her property affectionately dubbed "Obenhaufen."

Jeanne is survived by her husband; her children: Pamela S., wife of Robert Rathman; Jon E. Sloan, husband of Diane; Nicole M., wife of Robert Gottschall, Lisa S., wife of Thomas Wrobel; and step-children: Curtis, Kathleen, Valerie, and Douglas Downey, and Kristen Strunk. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Holly Monahan; Lorilee Monahan Rose-Lewis; Chelsey Sloan; Vance, Jared, and Cheyenne Gottschall, and Alexandria Wrobel; 11 step-grandchildren: Hayley and Quincy O'Bryan, Curtis, Heather, and Richard Downey; Christine Bright; Austin Spitler; Emily Robles; and Douglas, Jacqueline, and William Downey; and four step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Joan Yanuskiewicz and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Safe Berks (formerly Berks Women in Crisis), 255 Chestnut St., Reading, PA 19602 or friends may donate blood in her name.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 15th at 11am at Jeanne's Pavilion/Lots. Casual attire, please bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy the day with us.
