George R. Moore
WW2 BATTLE OF THE BULGE VETERAN
George R. (Jiggs) Moore, 98, of Reading, raised and formerly of Sanatoga, PA, passed away Thursday, July 4th, at his residence surrounded by family members.
George was born in Pottstown on January 5, 1926, a son of the late Marguerite (Kaas) and George P. Moore.
He was the husband of Marlene (Ellis) Moore who survives him. They were married for 52 years.
Jiggs, as he was affectionately called, was a past president of the Berks County Battle of the Bulge Reading, PA Chapter. He loved bowling and rolled two 300 games 29 years apart. He also was an avid golfer.
George served in the U.S. Army as a PFC in WWII. He served in Central Europe in the Ardennes and the Rhineland, and was in the Battle of the Bulge with Company A, and the 1252nd Combat Engineer Brigade. He is one of the last Bulge Veterans in Berks County.
After his service, he worked as a Diesel Mechanic for 47 years at Doehler-Jarvis in Pottstown, PA.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughter, Abby Moore Steinmeyer, son in law Mark Steinmeyer, and his two grandchildren Sophia and Anthony Steinmeyer. He was predeceased by his daughter, Crystal A. Krause.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 9th from 4 - 7 PM at the John P. Feeney Funeral Home in Reading PA, with a Religious Service at 7 PM. The Topton American Legion Honor Guard will fire their rifle salute at 4 PM Sharp. We ask for all able veterans be there for his rifle salute. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Berks County Military Museum in care of Mark Gillan 182-198 E. Wyomissing Avenue Mohnton, PA 19540.
