Dennis L Swartz, Sr., 78, of Mt. Penn, passed away Friday, August 25, at his residence in the company of family members.
Dennis was born in Wilmington, DE, on February 8, 1945, a son of the late Fern (Walton) Swartz and Harold C. Swartz. He was the husband of Judith M. (O'Connor) Swartz, who survives him.
Dennis graduated from Albright University with an associate degree in Computer Science. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an SSG during the Vietnam War and later worked as a Distribution Supervisor at the Reading Eagle Company in Reading, PA, for 42+ years.
Dennis held many positions and memberships. He formerly served as Chief of the Mt. Penn Fire Company, a member of Mt. Penn Boro Council, a State EMT and Fire Training Instructor, a member of Exeter Ambulance Association, and an Auxillary Exeter Township Policeman. Additionally, he was formerly a committee member with Mt. Penn Sewer and Water Authority, a member of the PA Air National Guard, and a founding member of B.E.A.R.S. (Berks Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Services Association).
In addition to his wife, Judith, Dennis is survived by two daughters: Karen M. Swartz, of Mt. Penn, PA, and Rebecca A., wife of Christopher Hill, of Charlotte. NC.; and a son, Dennis L. Swartz, Jr., husband of Wendy, of Robesonia. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Nathan and Rhiannon Swartz and Seth and Samantha Hill.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 31 at Feeney Funeral Home in Reading, PA, followed by a Religious Service. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
