Deacon Granville ("Gumboot") Price, 85, of Reading, PA, passed away at 10:15 PM, Thursday, July 19th, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading.
Granville was born in Reading, PA on July 9, 1932, a son of the late Emmaline (Morris) and Robert Price.
He was the widower of Bulah E. Spradley-Price who predeceased him in 1995..
A member and Deacon of New First Baptist Church Birdsboro, PA, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean. War. he later retired s a Fork Lift Operator at Car Tech Reading, PA.
"Gumboot", as he was affectionately called, loved music, playing piano, saxaphone, drums and other horns. He had a large collection of printed music and was expanding his collection even at the time of his passing. He was a very compassionate man who love his church and family dearly.
Granville is survived by a step daughter, Teryann Holt, of Reading, Pa; two step sons Phillip Spradley, husband of Mary Ellen, of Reading, Pa and Robert Spradley, of Reading, Pa;
Granville is also survived by a sister, Grace, widow of Charles Brown, of Reading, Pa; a brother, Percy, husband of alverias Price, Sr., of Reading, Pa. and his long time caregiver the Reverend Janice Grant ,
he was predeceased by 2 stepdaughters Mary Branford in 2015. and JoAnne Copeland in 2005 and a sister Fannie Evans in 1999.
A Public Viewing will be held 10 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, July 27th at New First Baptist Church in Birdsboro, PA. A Religious Service will be held at 11 AM to 12:30 PM. Internment in Berks County Memorial Gardens Fleetwood, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to New First Baptist Chuch 216 N Mill Street Birdsboro, PA 19508.
