Charlotte S. Anderson Obituary

Charlotte S. Anderson, 72, of Reading, passed away Thursday, February 26, at Tower Health Reading Hospital in West Reading.

Born in Reading on November 27, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Elsie (Bailey) Castner and Charles Schuyler Castner, author of Berksiana and One of a Kind (the Milton Hershey Biography)

Charlotte was a graduate of Wilson High School and continued her education at York College of Pennsylvania and Temple University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology. She later worked as a psychotherapist before retiring several years ago. Charlotte truly loved her profession and the clients she served throughout her career.

Charlotte was formerly married to the late Benjamin McKulik, the love of her life, whose memory she carried with her always.

Charlotte was a devoted advocate for animals and spent much of her life rescuing them, including four horses, eight dogs, and six cats. She also had a deep love for horseback riding. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed writing and leaves behind many unpublished works. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her love of animals, and the quiet kindness she showed to those around her. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the many animals she lovingly cared for.

Charlotte is survived by her brother, Shannon Castner, husband of Marcia, of Spring Township; five nieces, Kelly Bingaman, of Spring Township, Christy Mack, wife of David, of Spring Township, Corey Harmsen, wife of Jeroen, of Wyomissing, and Emily Castner and Jessica Castner, both of Spring Township. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Charles A. “Tony” Castner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Charlotte’s memory to the Reading Humane Society or the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
