Catherine "kitty" "Shuey&quot A. (Wakefield) Shubrooks Obituary

Catherine A. "Kitty" Shubrooks, 102, of Reading, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 1st, at her residence. 

Catherine was born in Wrightsville, PA on March 2, 1923, a daughter of the late Esther (Moore) and Hiram Wakefield.

She was the widow of Rev. William R. Shubrooks who died in 1975.

She graduated from West Fallowfield High School in 1941. She was an Ordained Minister since 1946 with a Bachelor of Theology. She also Graduated from LPN School of Nursing.

Catherine, known as “Shuey” at the hospital, was employed as a LPN at St. Joseph's Hospital Reading, PA., for 23 years, retiring in 1985. She served 2 years as a Tour Escort for Roamer Tours and worked in Haiti on Mission projects. She co-pastored with her husband, William, for several churches. She made cassette tapes for shut-ins, conducted radio programs on Red Lion station, and worked in the Rainbow business. 

She was a member of the Salvation Army, serving as a Major, and was President of Robesonia, PA Senior Citizens for a time.

She earned an Honorary D.D. for outstanding excellency in Ministry in June 2009. After her retirement, she devoted time to a Writing Ministry and Prayer circle and corresponded to 82 pen pals. 

Catherine is survived by a daughter, Russellene, widow of Richard Good of Reading. 

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 29 Great grandchildren and 10 Great great grandchildren and many other friends.

She was also predeceased by a son, Russell Shubrooks in 2004, and daughters, Hazel Daniels in 2010, Catherine Stump in 2011, and Shirley Marie Long in 2000 and brother, Clarence Stehman.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Feeney Funeral Home on Monday, April 7th from 6-8 PM and Tuesday April 8th from 10 - 11 AM. Religious Service and Remembrances at 11 AM. Burial follows at 2 PM alongside her husband in Grace Methodist Cemetery, 163 West Frederick St., Millersville, PA.
