Arthur Cocroft III Obituary

Arthur Edwin Cocroft, III, age 74, of Reading , PA passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Medical Center.  Arthur was born in Reading , PA on September 28, 1943, a son of the late Stella Constance (Davidejt) and Arthur Edwin Cocroft, Jr.
Art was the beloved husband of 50 years of Constance (Sablowski) Cocroft.
.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading, PA and attended Albright College.
Art is a Vietnam Veteran who was a Police Officer who served not only as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force along with the U. S. Marine Corps. He was instrumental in training K-9 dogs for both branches of the military.
Art retired from the City of Reading Police Department, Traffic Division after 20 years of service. He was also employed as a Deputy Sheriff for the Berks County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. After retiring from the City of Reading Art worked part time for the Sherwin-Williams Company in the Reading area for 10 years. 
Art was an active member of the Friends of the Berks County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit, served two terms as President and member of the East Ends Athletic Club, and member of the Reading Pagoda Lions Club.
Art was very active with the Touchdown Club of Berks County serving as Past President and Vice-President along with Chairman of the Annual All-Star Football Game. He was very active for a number of years with the Hillside Playground Association and an effective fund-raiser with the Sandy Valley Campground Association raising money for Camp CanDo which is a camp for kids who are facing cancer. Art was also very involved with the Boulder Woods Campground, helping with their social activities.
Art was also a member of the VFW, American Legion,Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled Vietnam Veterans Association, National Law Enforcement Association & Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 6th from 9:30am to 11:00am at the John P. Feeney Funeral Home, 625 North 4th Street , Reading , PA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6th at 11:30am at the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery, where entombment with military honors will immediately follow. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Art's name to Berks County Community Foundation, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601 with "Sheriff K-9 Fund" in the memo line.
