Alice L. (Becker) Gould, 67, of Reading, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday after a 15-year battle with cancer.
Born in Pottsville on Oct. 18th, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Catherine (Schlitzer) Becker. She attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated from Nativity B.V.M. High School in 1965. She moved to Reading in 1966 to raise a family with her husband, Paul R. Gould. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Pottsville.
Alice was employed by Astor Industries before becoming a full-time wife and mother. As her children grew, Alice was able to begin supplementing her family's income by doing housework for others. She loved spending time with and taking care of her family and others, and enjoyed many years of recreational camping and fishing in Delaware. She also loved going to the casinos and hitting on the penny machines. She was the ultimate example of strength, resilience, and inspiration during her courageous battle with cancer. She has taught all of us the true meaning of hope and to never, ever give up. Her zest for life, sincere honesty, and fierce love of family and friends and will be deeply missed but never forgotten. The world was a better place with her in it.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Paul Becker.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul R. Gould, and three appreciative and loving children: Paul R. Gould Jr. and his wife, Tracy (Schrader), Sinking Spring, Michele Gould and her fiance, Phil Wheddon, Syracuse, N.Y., and Scott Gould and his wife, Stephanie (Hemmig), Fleetwood; as well as her two thankful and loving grandchildren, Matthew Gould, Laurel, Md., and Andrew Gould, Sinking Spring.
Other survivors include sisters, Barbara Becker, Pottsville, and Kathryn (Becker) Knarr, Cressona; a sister-in-law, Nancy Becker, Schuylkill Haven; many nieces and nephews; and too many friends and loved ones to list.
