Alfred M. Tranquillo Obituary

Al’s life did not come to an end with his death. Al, loving husband, proud father and loyal friend, passed away on June 12, 2022 at the age of 83 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest through laughter and kindness.  He was preceded in death by first wife of 49 years, Rose Ann (Roberts) Tranquillo. He is survived by wife, Mary Sylvia (Clay); daughters, Lisa and Lauree Tranquillo; sister, Louise Tranquillo; granddaughter Amia Tranquillo; and great-grandson Maj’esti Tranquillo. Al is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his wife Sylvia’s three children (Tommy, Pam and Doug) and their families.

Al was one of 8 children, 7 born to Amedeo and Theresa (Gigliotti) Tranquillo in Lilly, PA. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960 during the Cold War as a SP-4. His engaging personality made him a successful salesman, first selling encyclopedias, pots and pans and hearing aids, and ending his career of more than 40 years as an insurance agent.

Much like Frank Sinatra, Al did things his way throughout his life. Cooking, good food, fishing, dancing and repeating single lines of favorite songs were true joys throughout his lifetime. He was always willing to share his wisdom, like it or not, as a mentor for those he encountered in business and happily stepped into the father figure role to multiple nieces and nephews. As part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Al connected with a ‘little brother’, Michael Bush, who became part of his family for more than four decades. His giving did not stop there, his heart of gold annually supported the secret Santa fund in his hometown to ensure Christmas was special to those in need. He leaves a legacy filled with fond memories, feisty comebacks, funny stories and hearty laughs for all those that knew him.

Private services will be held on Friday, June 17th at Gethsemane Chapel of St. George, Laureldale. Interment at Gethsemane Cemetery Chapel of St. George. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al's memory may be made to President, Lilly Chapter St. Vincent DePaul Society, 99 Williams Street Lilly, PA 15938. Donations will go to a designated secret Santa fund to aid local single mothers at Christmas. Arrangements entrusted to John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Inc. 625 N. 4th Street at Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601, 610-372-4160.
